Abstract: (Considerations regarding the work of sculptor Ferdinand Stuflesser Ars Sacra 1875 workshop: A case study of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Mary in the Mehala district of Timișoara) The study is designed as an introduction to nineteenth-century sacred art, a subject that has been largely overlooked in specialized research. It defines the concept of Tyrolean altars as a category of heritage objects that have often acquired negative connotations due to various factors, which are explained and analyzed from the perspective of art history methodology. The study offers an analysis of this episode of aesthetic and religious formulations, focusing on the semantic aspects of form and content. Particular attention is given to the reinterpretation and resemantization of forms and iconographic content of Ferdinand Stuflesser’s works increasingly recognized for their craftsmanship, cultural significance, and their role in expressing the religious and national identity of the time.
