Abstract: Regardless of the situation, linguistic borrowing represents the natural effect of changes that occur in society. New words enter a language along with the extralinguistic reality of the objects they describe, thus introducing novelty, a concept formerly unknown. Consequently, lexical and semantic borrowings are simultaneous. The availability of several foreign languages that serve as sources from which Romanian borrows words, either during the same period or at another time, involves discarding the elements that are no longer useful and the emergence of new words which are essential for meeting the specific needs of the social and linguistic reality. The constant (direct or indirect) contact between Romanian and other European languages and cultures represented a factor that caused the borrowing of neologisms to meet to the need for a semantic refitting of the Romanian vocabulary, so as to accommodate the cultural integration caused by the continuous evolution of society and the want for cultural and linguistic communication.
