Citatul omagial în traducere
Abstract: (Reverential Quote in Translation) Memorable fragments found in translations contribute greatly to their expressivity, having the role of "compensating elements". In one chapter of his work, Eminesciene, G.I. Tohăneanu, says that writers often choose to show their respect and consideration for their remarkable predecessors by re-using of syllables, grammatical forms or poetic phrases of the past. This practice is used by professor Tohaneanu himself in various “reverential quotes”. Following the professor’s endeavor in translating the Virgilian Aeneid, we will try to highlight those words and phrases that were used by the translator as valuable poetical resources to enhance the Romanian version of the Virgilian text.

Rezumat: Locurile memorabile descoperite în traduceri contribuie în mare măsură la gradul de expresivitate al acestora, având rol de “elemente compensatorii”. Într-un capitol din lucrarea sa, Eminesciene, G.I. Tohăneanu arată că în creaţia unui scriitor poate fi desluşit un sentiment de veneraţie şi de cinstire faţă de alţi poeţi de frunte, “prin însuşirea şi reluarea unor vocabule, forme gramaticale sau chiar îmbinări din recuzita limbajului poetic al vremii”1 . Faptul este confirmat şi în traducerea profesorului Tohăneanu, prin numeroase “citate omagiale”. Pe urmele profesorului, în tălmăcirea Eneidei vergiliene, vom încerca să aflăm cuvinte şi expresii (re)cunoscute în literatura limbii române care au fost “alese” de traducător ca valoroase resurse poetice pentru a reda în limba română textul vergilian.
