L’incontro personale con l’Italia nella corrispondenza dello scrittore ungherese Antal Szerb (1901-1945)
Abstract: (The Personal Encounter with Italy in the Masterpieces of the Hungarian Writer Antal Szerb) During the 30es of XXth Century the Hungarian writer Antal Szerb visited Italy several times, enjoying the Bel Paese as an ‘amateur’, without really knowing in depth the Italian literature, Italian culture or even Italian gastronomy. The biographical experiences Szerb gathered during his four (may be five) travels to Italy became part of the Author’s most successfull novels, The Third Tower (1936), and his masterpiece, Traveler and the Moonlight (1937). Besides that, some precious information comes also from the analysis of Szerb’s correspondence with friends, on which this scientific item will focus.

Riassunto: Lo scrittore ungherese Antal Szerb si è recato varie volte in viaggio in Italia durante gli anni ‘30 del ‘900, arrivando a apprezzare e ad amare il Bel Paese da ‘dilettante’, senza quindi conoscere veramente la letteratura, la cultura e le usanze italiane, ma scoprendole nel corso dei suoi viaggi. Le esperienze biografiche raccolte durante i quattro (forse cinque) viaggi vengono rielaborate e riversate nei capolavori letterari a sfondo italiano di Szerb, La terza torre (1936) e, soprattutto, Il viaggiatore e il chiaro di luna (1937). Accanto ai due romanzi, un’altra preziosa fonte di informazioni sul rapporto tra Szerb e l’Italia sono alcune delle sue lettere, su cui si concentra questo studio.
