Abstract: (The Book-Dictionary, Life in Pieces and Some Remedies for Oblivion) This article aims at discussing the relatioship between memory, oblivion  and life-writing, starting from the implications of an extravagant and uncommon fictional pattern : the book-dictionary/ encyclopedia, an experimental postmodernist device that enables the writers to display some sort of parodical and mystified knowledge, constructing conflicting fictional worlds. It goes without saying that such writings challenge the reader to use his/ her imagination in order to counterbalance the absence of a minimal narrative coherence and simultaneously to enjoy the benefits of the authors’ fanciful erudition. My primary textual focus will be on Milorad Pavić’s Dictionary of the Khazars. A Lexicon Novel in 100.000 mots, a book that certainly imposes a fundamental reevaluation of reading and finally of the reationship between language and reality.
