Repere ale polemicii în apologetica lui Arnobius de Sicca
Abstract: (Landmarks of the Polemic in Arnobius of Sicca Apologetics) The work of the ecclesiastical writer and Latin apologist Arnobius of Sicca deserves even today the full attention of modern classicists, patristic scholars and historians as well, as his only writing Adversus nationes still represents one of the least understood and most controversial books written before the era of Constantine the Great. The present study focuses on his talent for polemics in his attacks upon paganism, made in a desperate effort to convince his Bishop to admit him completely and with an open heart into membership in the Christian church. Many of the polemic features from his work are of real interest in order to understand his times but also the style of the next generation of apologists, among which stands tall his student Lactantius.

Rezumat: Opera scriitorului bisericesc şi apologetului latin Arnobiu de Sicca merită atenţia deplină a clasiciştilor moderni, a savanţilor patrologi şi deopotrivă a istoricilor, de vreme ce lucrarea sa Adversus nationes încă reprezintă una dintre cel mai puţin înţelese şi mai controversate cărţi scrise înaintea epocii lui Constantin cel Mare. Studiul de faţă se concentrează asupra talentului său polemic din atacurile contra păgânismului, elaborate în efortul disperat de a-şi convinge Episcopul să-l accepte pe deplin şi cu inima deschisă ca membru al Bisericii Creştine. Numeroase repere polemice din opera lui se dovedesc de un real interes pentru înţelegerea vremurilor sale dar şi a stilului generaţiei următoare de apologeţi, din rândul cărora se distinge elevul său Lactantius.
