Reactualizarea unor derivate inedite în traducerea Eneidei
Abstract: (Reassessment of Unusual Derivatives in Translation of the Aeneid). In his translation of the Aeneid, professor G.I. Tohăneanu has skillfully exploited the derivative potential of the Romanian language as well as it’s propensity toward word-formation. In this endeavor for the “right word” and for the “right meaning” he used deprefixation, desuffixation and morphological class change that led to remarkable lexical derivatives. The present work aims to emphasize the double significance of the encounter between the Vergilian verse and Professor Tohăneanu, the first resulting in a spectacular revisit of this world heritage masterpiece and the second constituting a surprising process of lexical revaluation and even lexical innovation. Being entangled in novel and astonishing semantic and sonorous, the Romanian translation represents the mirabilis conventus between the Latin poet Virgil and Professor G.I. Tohăneanu.

Rezumat: Solicitând toate straturile vocabularului şi, totodată, capacitatea derivativă a limbii române, în traducerea Eneidei, profesorul G.I. Tohăneanu a căutat şi a aflat cuvântul. Efortul aflării unui echivalent corespunzător în limba proprie a condus la prezenţa în traducere a unor derivate inedite. Prezenta lucrare urmăreşte să arate că întâlnirea profesorului G.I. Tohăneanu cu poezia vergiliană are o dublă semnificaţie: readucerea în orizontul literar românesc a uneia dintre cele mai însemnate opere literare universale şi reactualizarea unor creaţii lexicale rare sau chiar izvodirea unora noi. Angrenat în surprinzătoare şi înnoitoare alcătuiri sonore şi semantice, cuvântul aflat în versiunea românească a Eneidei reprezintă, cu adevărat, rodul mirabilei întâlniri (conventus „cuvânt”) dintre poetul latin Vergilius şi profesorul G.I. Tohăneanu.
