Şi totuşi... originea romană a inspiraţiei poetice
Abstract: Classical poets belived that the poems they wrote were inspired by the muses, therefore, they almost always began their verse by summoning the muses. To be inspired could meant, in this particular mythology, to receive information exterior to oneself transmitted by some supernatural, superhuman force, information that you could not otherwise acquire through your own limited capacities. Still, the divinity that inspires man has not always been understood as an entity exterior to the artist, but also as an interior one. Socrates used to tell his disciples that all his wisdom came from a voice that he heard inside his mind, which he called „daimon”. To the art creator, the „(qualitative) superior part of the soul”, the „daimon”, is the artistic thinking, namely the poetic thinking. For the Latin poets, the connection with the sacrum is a very strong one, but they are mere instruments through which the gods communicate their will to the people. They are the ones chosen by the Gods to help the people see reality in a different way, through their eyes. Or, even more, see beyond it, as far as the gift and poetic skill of the poet allowed.

Rezumat: Poeții clasici credeau că poezia pe care o scriu este inspirată de muze și, drept urmare, își începeau cânturile aproape întotdeauna prin invocarea muzelor. A fi inspirat putea să însemne, în această mitologie, a primi din afara ta o informație transmisă de o forță supranaturală, supraumană, pe care nu o poți avea de la sine, prin propriile capacități. Dar divinitatea care îl inspiră pe om nu a fost înțeleasă în cursul timpului doar ca o entitate exterioară omului, ci și ca una interioară. Socrate le spunea discipolilor că toată întelepciunea îi vine de la un glas pe care îl aude înlăuntrul său, pe care el îl numea daimon. Pentru creatorul de artă „partea superioară (calitativă) a sufletului“, daimonul, este gândirea artistică, de fapt gândirea poetică. Pentru poeții latini, legătura cu sacrul este una foarte puternică, dar ei nu reprezintă doar niște instrumente prin care zeii comunică oamenilor voința lor. Ei sunt aleșii zeilor pentru a-i ajuta pe oameni să vadă realitatea altfel, prin ochii lor, și dincolo de ea, atât cât le permitea harul cu care au fost înzestrați, dar și priceperea lor poetică.
