Abstract: By researching the Romanian language spoken in Banat and comparing it to other Romance languages and their dialects, Simeon Mangiuca was more of an early Romanist than a late Latinist. He belongs to what Sextil Puscariu called the ethnological moment in Romanian studies, anticipating the geopolitical advantages of blood kinship between the Romanians in Austro-Hungary and the French, the Italians and the Spanish. “A history of the Romance languages and their dialects” writes Mayer-Lubke, “becomes a history of communication that deepens the political and administrative history of Europe.”

Rezumat: Prin cercetarea limbii române vorbite în Banat în comparaţie cu limbile romanice şi dialectele acestora, Simeon Mangiuca a fost mai degrabă un romanist timpuriu decât un latinist întârziat. El se încadrează în ceea ce Sextil Puşcariu a numit momentul etnologic al romanisticii, intuind avantajele geopolitice ale înrudirii de sânge a românilor din Austro- Ungaria cu francezii, italienii, spaniolii. „O istorie a limbilor şi dialectelor romanice”, scria Mayer-Lübke, „va deveni o istorie a comunicării care poate să adâncească istoria politică şi administrativă” din Europa.
