Originalul necunoscut al Gramaticii de la învăţătura fizicii, traducere din limba italiană a episcopului Amfilohie Hotiniul
Abstract: (The Unknown Original of the Gramatica de la învăţătura fizicii, Translated from Italian by the Bishop Amfilohie Hotiniul) The bishop Amfilohie Hotiniul is a Romanian scholar from the 2nd half of the 18th century, whose activity has been made known especially during the last decades of the 20th century. Paradoxically, a clergyman was attracted by the Enlightenment ideology, promoting rationalism, a revolution of the educational system, the diffusion of sciences, the fight against feudal ideology and the removal of religious dogmas. Amfilohie translated from Italian (and elaborated) a geography book (from Buffier) and an arithmetic book (from Alessandro Conti), both published in Iasi. It was him who also compiled, after Italian sources, a Romanian-Russian grammar. The object of the current paper is the presentation of the unknown original book at the basis of the translations of the text entitled Gramatica de la învăţătura fizicii, preserved in the manuscript n. 1627 from BAR (Romanian Academy Library). The source language of the translation is Italian and the textual analysis has led us to other scientific works known at that time. The text translated by Amfilohie Hotiniul is important both from a linguistic viewpoint (the formation of the geographical terminology, the adjustment of neologisms) and a cultural one (the circulation of books and the penetration of the Western culture in the Romanian Provinces).

Rezumat: Un literat român din a doua jumătate a secolului al XVIII-lea, a cărui activitate a fost prezentată în special în ultimele decenii ale secolului al XX-lea, este episcopul Amfilohie Hotiniul. Paradoxal, un reprezentant al clerului a fost atras de gîndirea iluministă care promova raţionalismul, revoluţionarea sistemului formativ, răspîndirea ştiinţei, lupta împotriva ideologiei feudale, îndepărtarea de dogmele religioase. Amfilohie a tradus (şi elaborat) o carte de geografie (după Buffier) şi unul de aritmetica (după Alessandro Conti), ambele publicate la Iaşi. El este şi autorul unei gramatici româno-ruse, compilată după surse italiene. Obiectul lucrării de faţă este reprezentat de prezentarea cărţii originale, rămasă pînă acum necunoscută, pe care Amfilohie Hotiniul a utilizat-o pentru a traduce textul intitulat Gramatica de la învăţătura fizicii, care se păstrează în manuscrisul nr. 1627 de la BAR. Limba sursă a traducerii este italiana, în timp ce analiza textologică ne-a determinat să consultăm şi alte lucrări ştiinţifice cunoscute în epocă. Textul tradus de Amfilohie Hotiniul este important atît din punct de vedere lingvistic (pentru formarea terminologiei în limba română, adaptarea neologismelor), cît şi din punct de vedere cultural (circulaţia cărţilor şi influenţa culturii occidentale în ţările române).
